Up Teacher's Camp Prev Next Slideshow

Have you ever wondered what teachers do on those ‘Teacher Only Days’ they have that mean the children can’t come to school? Well whilst parents were busy taking advantage of the ‘back to school’ sales in January and children were preparing to go off to their new schools or their new classes with a mixture of apprehension and excitement the teaching staff at Red Beach School returned to school in order to attend camp. Thirty plus members of the teaching staff and senior management met early and headed off to Kings College Camp in Ahoroa. The weather was amazing, as in fact the whole summer break was, but the staff remained inside most of the time; team building and preparing for the year’s learning. The Red Beach School Vision is central to everything that is done at the school so it was very important that the new staff were brought on board and the existing staff were re-inspired ready for the children returning to school on the Thursday. There was lots of team work, fun and thinking going on;as well as some bouncing on the tramp and some real risk taking swinging from a huge tree. Games were played, there was planning of how to deliver the curriculum and most of the staff coped very well without cell phone coverage for a night. For some that was the hardest part of the camp, that and sleeping in shared dorms in bunk beds with a long trek to the toilets. The teachers returned to school refreshed, inspired and excited ready to follow a year long scientific theme developing 600+ young scientists and if you are connected to Red Beach School be prepared to answer some difficult questions as our students wonder about the world and ponder themes and concepts they may not have considered before.
